Verde Mountain - Field Hockey Stick Earrings
The wood I used to make this piece came from a vintage wood field hockey stick in field hockey, each player carries a stick and cannot take part in the game without it. The majority of players use a stick in the range 19 oz to 22 oz. Traditionally hockey sticks were made of hickory, ash or mulburry wood with the head of the sticks being hand curved and therefor required skilled craftsmen to produce. When I started cutting into a stick for earring stock, I realized that for strength the wood was glued in segments with the end grain running in the direction the ball would impat the stick.
These are a dangle style with stainless steel wires that are 100% nickle free.
